China Film Week in Cambodia 2025
During President Xi Jinping's state visit to Cambodia, China Film Week in Cambodia 2025 was opened in the afternoon of April 17 at Chaktomuk Hall in Phnom Penh. Shen Haixiong, vice minister of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and president of China Media Group (CMG), H.E. Dr. PHOEURNG Sackona, Minister of Ministry of Culture and Arts, Kingdom of Cambodia, H.E HAB Touch, Secretary of State, Ministry of Culture and Arts, Kingdom of Cambodia, Liang Jianzeng, Director of CMG's editorial office, An Xiaoyu, Director of the Asia-Africa Center, Cao Yi, Director of CMG Asia-Pacific, Hua Kai, Deputy Director of the Bureau of International Exchange, ZHANG XUXIA, Deputy Director of China Film Archive, ZHANG MIAO, Producer of I AM WHAT I AM 2, SUN HAIPENG, Director of I AM WHAT I AM 2, attended the Opening Ceremony.
China Film Week in Cambodia 2025 was hosted by China Film Administration and Ministry of Culture and Arts, Kingdom of Cambodia, and co-organized by China Film Archive and Cambodia Asian Film Festival Organizing Committee. This event has played a positive role in enhancing humanistic exchanges between China and Cambodia, and consolidating the foundation of public opinion in the two countries.
H. E. Dr. PHOEURNG Sackona, Minister of Ministry of Culture and Arts, Kingdom of Cambodia, emphasized in her speech that the friendship between Cambodia and China is deep and solid, and the cooperation between Cambodia and China in the film industry has been continuously strengthened and upgraded through various projects. It is hoped that China Film Week in Cambodia 2025 will become a platform for both sides to share creativity, enhance friendship and unity, and join hands to build a Cambodian-Chinese community of destiny. Zhang Xuxia said in her speech that in recent years, China and Cambodia have had continuous cultural exchanges. On March 25 this year, the Chinese Spring Festival animated film Ne Zha 2 was released in Cambodian theaters, triggering a wave of local people's interest in watching the film. The movie, with original Chinese soundtrack and Khmer dubbing, has become a highlight of cultural exchanges between the two countries. China looks forward to further promoting in-depth cooperation with Cambodian counterparts in the art of film and its industry, and helping the Chinese and Cambodian people to deepen their hardcore friendship. The opening ceremony was full of exciting activities, with Cambodian artists presenting a lively lion dance performance. The organizers distributed a number of movie-peripheral cultural and creative products to the local audience, so as to let everyone know more about Chinese movies.
After the opening ceremony, the movie I AM WHAT I AM 2 was screened. The producer and director of the film exchanged ideas and conversations with the audience in a warm atmosphere after screening. As the sponsor of the event, China Union Pay organized a relevant offline activity in the same time at the hall.
From April 17th to April 21st, this event has screened six excellent Chinese films, including I AM WHAT I AM 2, Creation of The GodsⅠ: Kingdom of Storms, Creation of The Gods Ⅱ: Demon Forces Demon, Detective Chinatown 1900, A Tapestry of a Legendary Land, and Big World. Ms. Hong Li, Executive Chairwoman of Cambodia Asian Film Festival Organizing Committee, attended the opening ceremony as a representative of the organizer and pressed the starting column together with other guests, marking the official opening of the festival. During the film week, China and Cambodia signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Film Cooperation between China Film Administration and Ministry of Culture and Arts, Kingdom of Cambodia. According to the MoU, China and Cambodia will further deepen exchanges and cooperation in the field of film, and expand practical cooperation in the mutual screening of films, cooperation in filming, personnel exchanges, participation in festivals and exhibitions, etc., so as to inject new impetus into the promotion of cooperation in the field of humanities between the two countries and the development of bilateral relations at a high level.
