2026 China-Cambodia Film & Cultural Exchange Week Kicks Off in Fuzhou
As an important in-depth cooperation achievement of the China-Cambodia Sister Film Festival partnership, the 2026 China-Cambodia Film & Cultural Exchange Week (Fuzhou Station) officially launched on July 3, kicking off a 10-day cross-border cinematic cultural dialogue in Fuzhou. Adopting an innovative “film plus” integrated model, the event promotes distinctive Chinese and Cambodian cultural communication, deepens bilateral people-to-people exchanges, and builds Fuzhou into a unique cultural exchange gateway facing Southeast Asia.
Supported, guided and jointly hosted by authoritative institutions from both countries, the event gathers film administrators, technical experts, creators, industry practitioners, film lovers and media representatives, forming an international cultural gala integrating film screenings, academic discussions and industrial cooperation.
On July 3, the launch ceremony of the Exchange Week was held at Fuzhou Suning Cinema, where representatives from all sectors of China and Cambodia delivered speeches on stage to usher in a new chapter of cultural integration between the two nations. Huang Jianxiong, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Fuzhou Municipal Committee, Director of the Publicity Department and Director of the United Front Work Department, delivered a welcome address, followed by respective speeches from Wang Jiannan, Executive Vice Minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Fujian Provincial Committee and Director of Fujian Provincial Film Bureau, and Lim YouSour, Deputy Director General of Cultural Affairs Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts of the Kingdom of Cambodia. The ceremony reached its climax with a captivating performance of Royal Apsara Dance, an intangible cultural heritage of Cambodia brimming with exotic ethnic charm.
Witnessed by Lim YouSour, Deputy Director General of Cultural Affairs Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and Ms. Hong Li, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee of Cambodia Asian Film Festival, two landmark cooperation agreements were signed at the ceremony. First, Cambodian film If Ever You Shall Be confirmed co-shooting in Fuzhou to attract overseas productions to the city. Second, driven by Copyright Trading Center of Cambodia Asian Film Festival, Cambodia's leading cinema operator Westec Media secured overseas distribution deals for two local Fujian films, Wave Blossoms and Ximen Jijiaonong, bringing Fujian cinema to mainstream Cambodian screens.
From July 3 to 12, Guangrong Cinema hosts a joint China-Cambodia film exhibition, including three major sections: excellent Cambodian films, outstanding Fujian productions and restored classic Chinese films, with more than ten high-quality films screened and post-screening creator dialogue sessions arranged. Four brand-new Cambodian films covering family, youth, action and folk fantasy themes are showcased, fully presenting the contemporary humanities and artistic features of Cambodia.
The Old Man, a heartwarming family comedy, focuses on generational estrangement and family reconciliation in ordinary households. It tells the story of an elderly loner who gradually reconciles with life accompanied by a teenager, embodying the tender warmth of ordinary Cambodian daily life.
Far Away Close to You, a youthful romance film set against the urban landscapes of Phnom Penh and rural scenery in the rainy season, portrays the pure affection of young men and women who heal each other and pursue dreams amid growing confusion, presenting the unique freshness and romance of Southeast Asia.
Neath's Love Story: Tomorrow Again is an action feature intertwined with homeland protection and human dilemmas. Centered on a tribal leader entangled in power conflicts who wavers between revenge and loyalty, the film delivers profound reflections on national heritage beneath its sleek action sequences.
Phum Boran (The Forgotten Village), a folk fantasy drama, integrates the history of the Khmer dynasty with modern narration. It follows a urban youth who enters a remote village bearing ancient civilizational marks and achieves self-awakening amid rural life, boasting profound historical depth and distinctive artistic expression.
A key practice for bilateral cultural mutual learning and friendship consolidation, the exchange week smoothens channels for China-Cambodian film cultural dissemination and industrial cooperation. Both sides will continue to leverage the film festival platform to deepen film cooperation, talent exchanges and cultural integration, writing a new chapter of China-Cambodia friendly cooperation.
