2024 China (Xiamen, Fujian) – Cambodia Film Week Concludes Successfully

The 2024 China (Xiamen, Fujian) – Cambodia Film Week has drawn to a successful close.

 

Guided by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Fujian Film Bureau and Xiamen Film Bureau, the event was co-hosted by the Publicity Department of Huli District Committee of the CPC and the Organizing Committee of Cambodia Asian Film Festival, aiming to build a platform for cultural and artistic exchanges and development of film industries between China and Cambodia.

 

The opening ceremony of the Film Week was held at the Universal Cinema in Sea World, Huli District, Xiamen on the afternoon of the 19th. A selection of Cambodian films carefully curated by the organizing committee were screened at the venue. Audiences immersed themselves in the wonderful cinematic world, experiencing the profound integration and vibrant collision of Chinese and Cambodian cultures.

During the opening ceremony, a royal traditional Cambodian band delivered distinctive Cambodian performances for all guests, instantly livening up the atmosphere. Melodious tunes played on traditional musical instruments fully showcased the unique cultural charm of Cambodia.

Hong Li, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee of Cambodia Asian Film Festival , delivered a speech on behalf of the co-organizers. She expressed her hope that the 2024 China (Xiamen, Fujian) – Cambodia Film Week would serve as a vital platform for film, cultural and artistic exchanges between the two nations. The event will introduce more outstanding Chinese films to Cambodia to display the distinctive landscape and profound cultural charm of China, while enabling Chinese audiences to better understand, acquaint themselves with and grow fond of Cambodia through motion pictures.

Renowned Cambodian director Mr. Henderson Daniel Jimmy took the floor as the representative of filmmakers. He remarked that Xiamen, hailed as the “Garden on the Sea”, boasts a perfect blend of natural scenery and modern architecture, a dreamlike land brimming with creative inspiration for filmmakers. He voiced his wish to shoot films here someday. Cambodia, a hidden gem in Southeast Asia with countless untapped landscapes, welcomes more Chinese film enterprises to explore its potential in the years ahead.

Ms. Shen Ping, Member of the Standing Committee of Huli District Committee of the CPC and Director of the District Publicity Department, stated in her address that the Film Week would serve as a valuable opportunity to deepen film and cultural exchanges and cooperation between Xiamen and Cambodia. The event intends to build a cinematic bridge facilitating mutual understanding and people-to-people bonds between Chinese and Cambodian people. Through the magic of film, it will steadily advance bilateral film cooperation and exchanges and contribute to fostering the friendly relations between China and Cambodia.

Mr. Chen Tarong, Deputy Director of the Film Department of the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts of the Kingdom of Cambodia, noted that this event marks another important milestone strengthening the cultural bond between Cambodia and China. Both countries boast millennia-long histories and diverse, distinctive civilizations, which lay a solid foundation for the thriving friendship between the two nations. The China-Cambodia Film Culture Exchange Week, as a powerful medium of cinema, will greatly boost bilateral friendship and cultural collaboration.

A highlight of the Film Week lay in the screening sessions and interactive activities featuring Cambodian films. Two outstanding Cambodian productions were selected for this event. During the opening ceremony, Turn Left Turn Right, directed by Douglas Seok and starring Kanita Dil, was screened to the audience.
